Pius Portmann
In his drawings and illustrations, Pius Portmann combines various techniques and styles of painting. He is fascinated by contrasts: spraying a wall for two hours, not knowing how long his piece of work is going to survive or working in depth, on a smaller scale, in a very disciplined way for several days.
His central motif, however, is consistent and clear: he fathoms characters or "beings", be it by means of line drawing or through hyper-realistic representation; Portmann then imbeds these individual motifs and drawings within an overall ink-based image applied directly to the wall.
The result is the interplay of shapes, human beings, and lines, a surreal structure with intertwining motifs that re-appear in different ways, while fore- and background seem to merge.
